High Season Approaching

Greetings Anglers! Rick here from Dream On Sport Fishing. As we head into our tourism high season I wanted to communicate with you about some of the recent changes to our local fishery. Be sure to check out some recent charter images at the end of this blog.

First and foremost I am excited to tell you what Incopesca has accomplished with the local government. Incopesca is The Costa Rican Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture is an autonomous Costa Rican institution that regulates fishing activities and their relationship with the environment.

In the last 2 years the banishment of dragnet/shrimp boats and longliners with live bait have been pushed out to at least 30 miles offshore. This is to discourage the catching of Sailfish which is regarded more of a sportfishing species than a commercial one. This has not only greatly improved the Sailfish fishery but the Yellowfin Tuna fishery has become world class. As a matter of fact, Mahi Mahi (Dorado, Dolphin Fish) and Marlin have also improved. This means your Costa Rica Dreams have gotten even better!

Costa Rica is already listed as one of the best destinations for sport fishing in Central America and is visited by thousands of tourists from all over the world who come to this country to enjoy this world-class sport. The sport and tourist fishing industry is very well developed throughout the country, both on the Caribbean and Pacific Coasts there are numerous tour operators of great prestige and seriousness that take sport fishermen to enjoy incredible fishing both near the coast and far from it. These highly specialized operators offer packages or fishing days, on boats that are duly registered, with professional equipment, and experienced captains and sailors who can offer you the best places and times of the year so that your day or fishing season is a real success.

At Dream On we are committed to sustainable fishing practices to ensure a world class fishery for generations to come.
