Catalina Island
Voted “World’s Healthiest Marine Environment” by Scuba Diving Magazine, the water is clear and clean, with visibility ranging from 40-100 feet. Water temperatures vary from 55-72 degrees. Lessons, rentals and dive trips are available. Not a Certified Diver? Want to give it a try? A great way to experience the underwater world of Santa Catalina Island when you don’t have the time to go through a full certification course is the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program, a dive experience designed for people who are not certified divers. The course includes classroom instruction and a closely supervised open water dive.
Bat Islands
One of the highlights are the face to face encounters with massive bull-sharks, up to 12ft/3.5m. Located around 30 miles/45 km north-west from Playas del Coco, at the most outward west-tip of the Santa Rosa National Park. These dive sites re advanced due to surge, stronger currents and rougher surface conditions.
The Bat Islands are non anchored and deep dives. Divers need to be able to make a quick descent and make the safety stop without a line. Maximum depths varies from site to site ranging from 60ft (18m) to 130 ft (35m). Visibility is about 18 to 100 ft/6 to 30m. Looking for a shorter excursion? Take a 15 minute boat ride and enjoy a three hour snorkeling excursion nearby, or add two more hours and add a stop at a private beach to laze in the sun and play!
